You cant just rush things, La Mulana never was like Metroid or Castlevania, it is mostly a puzzle game.

You have to read all tablets carefully, look out for/scan background objects and use every bit of information from NPCs and things like your map/room names. Movement is more fluid, you have more control while jumping and you can grab ladders while in the air.Įarly game puzzles are easier but it is still La Mulana. The NPC Mulbruk can be send to explore areas for you and she will give you hints afterwards.
#La mulana space capster software
You also dont need a special software to be able to read tablets in this game. You get the grail from the start and the text saving software can be bought in the surface village. You basically have to beat the first boss before more parts of the ruins open up so you wont get overwhelmed as much. In a game based on uneven progression, it'd be nice to know if you're even making a dent or should turn back. I'm not a fan of the bosses lacking lifebars either. But it feels like the game is actively working to waste my time.Īlso, fuck the swimming physics! It's literally inexcusable that a simple action such as exiting water is so difficult. So, does LM2 fix these issues? Or is it more of the same? I've 100%'d without a guide tons of Metroidvanias in the past, but LM1 is the only one I've quit due to purposeful obtuseness.

#La mulana space capster upgrade
I don't mind things like health powerups being hidden this way, but when main quest progress is gatekeeped in such a fashion, or critical quality of life upgrades like the Grail upgrade software, it just feels obnoxious (maybe even trollish), and poorly designed, which is a shame, as the rest of the package is excellent. I'm 85% of the way through by my estimate, but can't justify either killing hours upon hours hitting random blocks, backtracking to find the one obscure tablet out a hundred that gives me the hint needed, or consulting a guide again (my only previous peek was in the Illusion Corridoor). I've just hit a brick wall with Simon's Quest-like cryptic nonsense, and if I have to consult a wiki to progress, I either feel like I'm cheating, or in the case of some absurd 'solutions', have been cheated myself. I'll preface this by saying I love the visuals, audio, controls, design and lore of LM1.
